This tradition of excellence and dedication is not confined to the individual efforts of Frank alone; it lives on through the work of his sons, Peter and Greg. Wakefield Inspection Services (WIS) may have officially been established in 1993, but its roots trace back to a legacy with deep historical significance.

The journey began with Edward T. Robertson & Son (ETR), a pioneering firm of international cotton controllers founded in Charleston, USA, in 1906. ETR quickly expanded its global presence by establishing its first overseas branch in Bremen, Germany. Over time, it burgeoned into a leading force in cotton controlling with branches strategically placed in major cotton-producing and consuming countries worldwide.

In a significant turn of events, ETR underwent a change in ownership when it was purchased by Esperanza Trade and Transport Limited of London in 1973. This marked the beginning of a new chapter as ETR became part of an international inspection group.

In 1993, a pivotal moment in the company’s history occurred when IITS divested many assets of its US and UK cotton division. This marked the inception of Wakefield Inspection Services Limited (WIS), as it took over these assets, laying the foundation for its unique identity in the cotton controlling industry.

The establishment of WIS in 1993 thus represents a continuation of a rich heritage in the cotton industry, stemming from the early 20th century roots of Edward T. Robertson & Son and the subsequent transformations that shaped the industry’s landscape.
